Most of our online digital resources will require you to enter your Paris Public Library Barcode Number. When asked for a password only, use the barcode number (without spaces) from your card. If asked for your barcode number and PIN/password, use your barcode number and the last four digits of your phone number (as registerd on your library record).

My Media Mall Download Help

What do I need?

  • A valid library card from Paris Public Library or other participating Illinois Heartland Library System library.
  • Your PIN (last 4 digits of the phone number in your library record).
  • Check your specific device in Device Resource Center to see what software or app you may need. If you have a basic ereader or media player, you will also need a computer with Internet access.
  • An up-to-date web browser on your device if using Overdrive Read format ebooks.

Where do I start?

See the instructions for your device. Your first download may feel a bit complicated, but the process is easier after a little practice.

Signing in:

  1. Choose Illinois Heartland Library System as your library.
  2. Enter your library card barcode number (no spaces) and PIN (last 4 digits of the phone number in your library card record, unless you've changed it).

You may get an error message ...

  1. If the barcode number and /or PIN is incorrect.
  2. If your library card is expired.
  3. If there's a balance of $5.00 or more on your library card account.

Try re-entering your barcode and PIN; if that doesn't work, contact the library.

Advantage symbolSigning in first allows you to see extra copies purchased just for Paris cardholders.
The Advantage symbol appears on these titles.

 


Nook Simple Touch and other basic eReaders

These instructions are for the Nook Simple Touch and other basic Nooks, not the Nook Color or Nook Tablet. If you have a different brand of basic ereader, these instructions may be adapted for your ereader. For Nook Color or Nook Tablet, see the tablets section.

What do I need?

A valid library card from Paris Public Library or other participating Illinois Heartland Library System library and ...

  • Your Password/PIN (last 4 digits of the phone number as it was registered to your library record)
  • Computer with Internet access.
  • Simple Nook or other basic ereader compatible with MyMediaMall.

Where do I start?

  • Using a basic Nook requires a computer and Adobe Digital Editions software (a free download).
  • First, install Adobe Digital Editions on your computer. A “Get Software” link can be found at the bottom of any MyMediaMall page or at checkout.
  • To register the software click on “Get an Adobe ID”. Select “Don’t have an Adobe ID” and fill in the fields on the form. Select “Create” and then go back to Adobe Digital Editions to fill in the Adobe ID fields using the email and password you just created. This activates the software.

Sign in at My Media Mall

  • Go to My Media Mall on your computer from the Paris Public Library website or directly at www.mymediamall.net.
  • Sign in first. Choose Illinois Heartland Library System as your library. Enter your library card barcode number (no spaces) and PIN.

You may get an error message ...

  1. If the barcode number and /or PIN is incorrect.
  2. If your library card is expired.
  3. If there's a balance of $5.00 or more on your library card account.

You may select your desired loan period (7 or 14 days) in general by going to Account, then Settings. You may also choose the loan period on specific books when borrowing.

Navigating MyMediaMall

  • You may browse by selecting a category list or by clicking on a book cover.
  • An ebook shows a small open book in its upper right corner. An audiobook shows headphones and a video shows a strip of film. Audio and video formats are not compatible with basic ereaders.
  • The open book symbol is grayed out if the ebook is currently checked out. You may place a hold for the title.
  • Use the Search bar to find a specific author or title.
  • If looking for a book to read right now, use Advanced Search to display only items with available copies and in your format.

Formats compatible with Nook

The only formats that work with a Nook are Adobe epub or Adobe PDF.

Borrowing ebooks

  1. Search until you find a book you want.
  2. If the book is available, click Borrow.
  3. Click Go to Bookshelf and then Confirm.
  4. Click Download. If prompted, choose Open with and then Adobe Digital Editions from the list.
  5. Adobe Digital Editions opens and your ebook appears there after download is complete. There are two views, the Library View and the Reading View (button located in upper left corner to switch back and forth). To transfer to your Nook, you need to be in the Library View.
  6. To transfer the book to your ereader, plug the device into your computer. You will see Nook appear on the bookshelves menu located on the left. Click on the book cover in Adobe Digital Editions that you want to transfer and drag it to the word Nook.
  7. Safely eject your ereader when done.

Returning books early

You may return books early, from Adobe Digital Editions in Library View, hover mouse over book cover. A sideways triangle will appear. Click on the triangle and options will appear.

What if the book I want is checked out?

When a book is not available for immediate download, click Place a hold and enter your email address. You will receive an email when it’s your turn. Follow the instructions in the email to download

Things to Remember

  • You may have 5 items checked out at once. Items cannot be renewed. When the loan period ends, the title expires and is automatically returned. You may then delete the file.
  • Since these ereaders require using Adobe Digital Editions with a unique Adobe ID, ebooks cannot be downloaded using library computers.

Kindle and Kindle Fire

These instructions are for the basic Kindle and Kindle Fire.

What do I need?

A valid library card from Paris Public Library or other participating Illinois Heartland Library System library and ...

  • Device compatible with MyMediaMall.

  • Using a basic Kindle requires a computer.

Formats compatible with Kindle

The only ebook format that works with a basic Kindle is the Kindle format. If using a Kindle Fire and the Overdrive app, you can read Adobe epub or Adobe PDF and listen to mp3 audiobooks.

Borrowing ebooks

  • Search for a Kindle book.
  • Click the title for more information.
  • If the book is available, click Borrow and then Go to Bookshelf.
  • The Get for Kindle button opens the Amazon.com website. You may have to sign in to your Amazon account.
  • Select your Kindle device or Kindle app (preset if you only have one). Your Kindle should be turned on. Click Get library book button and sync your device or app to download the book or choose to send it to your device via USB.
  • An active Wi-Fi connection is required for wireless delivery to a Kindle. If your Kindle is not Wi-Fi capable, you do not have wireless, or the book you want will not transfer wirelessly, read the instructions for transferring files via USB in Manage Your Kindle on Amazon.com. Some books require USB transfer.

Using the Overdrive app on Kindle Fire

  • Go to your app store on your device and search for “Overdrive” and install the app.
  • Open app. You will be prompted to sign in with an Adobe id. Most first time users will need to “Register at Adobe.com”. You will be redirected to the Adobe account page where you want to click on “Don’t have an Adobe ID”. Fill out the form and click on “Create”. After successfully creating an ID, press your home button and reopen Overdrive app.
  • Tap “Get Books” and find “Settings”. Authorize using your Adobe id that you just created. Go back to “Get Books”.
  • Add a library. Enter zip code of home library and search. Select home library. Tap star to remember your library. Tap MyMediaMall. (Use Illinois Heartland Library System as your library in Account settings to enter your card information and check out.)
  • There are two main areas, Get Books and your Bookshelf. There should be a button that will toggle you back and forth. Bookshelf is where your books are located. Get Books is the website where you check out your items.

Returning books early

  • You may return books early by going to Manage Your Kindle in your Amazon account.
  • Audiobooks may not be returned early.

SmartPhones & Tablets

These instructions are for smartphones and tablets, including Nook Color and Nook tablet.

What do I need?

A valid library card from Paris Public Library or other participating Illinois Heartland Library System library and

  • Computer with Internet access, for a basic ereader or media player.
  • tablet, smartphone,  or other device compatible with MyMediaMall.

Where do I start?

Use the browser, Overdrive app and Kindle app on your device.

Sign in at MyMediaMall using a browser

  • Go to MyMediaMall on your computer from the Paris Public Library website or directly at www.mymediamall.net.
  • Sign in first. Choose Illinois Heartland Library System as your library. Enter your library card barcode number (no spaces) and PIN.

Choosing Overdrive Read format

  • Overdrive Read format lets you read a book in an up-to-date browser on your device without an app and without downloading the item.
  • Choose this format when Borrowing your ebook. Favorite/bookmark the book when it first opens in the browser to read offline or return to it later. Remove the Favorite when finished reading.
  • If you are finished with the book early, go to your Account in MyMediaMall and tap Return next to the item.

Borrowing Kindle ebooks in your browser (not available in Nooks)

  • Search for a Kindle book.
  • Tap a title for more information. If the book is available, click Borrow.
  • Tap Go to Bookshelf and then the Get for Kindle button to open the Amazon.com website. You may have to sign in to your Amazon account.
  • Select your Kindle app, if not already selected. Tap Get library book button and sync your device or app to download the book or choose to send it to your device via USB. Some books require USB transfer.

Using the Overdrive app

  • You may return epub books or mp3 audiobooks early by going to your Bookshelf in the Overdrive app. Tap the plus sign and choose Return. You may also go to Bookshelf in MyMediaMall in your browser.
  • You may return Overdrive Read books early by going to Bookshelf in MyMediaMall and tapping Return next to the item.
  • Audiobooks may not be returned early.

Audiobooks

Download Overdrive software or app

  • Help offers instructions for specific devices..
  • Follow the steps to download and install OverDrive Media Console software to your computer if you need to browse MyMediaMall on your computer and then sideload a book to your device.
  • OR to download directly to device such as a smartphone or tablet, go to its app store to install the free Overdrive app.

After installing the Overdrive Media Console app on your device, the next step is to locate our library. Tap "Add a Library" and search by zip code. A list of nearby libraries appears. Choose Lincoln Trail Libraries System -- Paris Carnegie Public Library if you have a Paris library card. Then choose MyMediaMall and access it directly from the app.

Download audiobooks

Audiobooks are available in two formats, mp3 and wma.  Check the Device Resource Center to see what format works on your device.

  1. Search or browse MyMediaMall until you find an audiobook to download.
  2. Click Borrow or Add to cart.
  3. Click Go to Bookshelf or Proceed to checkout.
  4. Choose format. A pop-up box asks you to confirm.
  5. Click the Download button.
  6. If prompted, choose Open with and choose OverDrive Media Console from the list.
  7. OverDrive will open and a Get Media box will pop up. Click OK.
  8. On the Download screen, click OK. Your download begins and may take several minutes to complete.
  9. Once your download is complete, listen to your audiobook on the computer or your device. If planning to use a media player, plug it into your computer, click Transfer in OverDrive Media Console, and follow the steps.

When using the app, you have 30 minutes to download the item to your computer once it is in your cart. If not downloaded after 30 minutes, the book is returned to MyMediaMall. You may have 5 items checked out at one time. At the end of an item's loan period, the title expires and is automatically returned. You may then delete the file from your computer and device. Audiobooks cannot be returned early.
