The Big Read encourages individuals to read the same book with the goal of promoting reading, sparking discussion, and building community. The 2017 Wabash Valley Big Read reaches across neighboring counties of Indiana and Illinois, with programs, events, and free copies of the book.
The 2017 Big Read book is Zora Neale Hurston’s Their Eyes Were Watching God. Free paperback copies are available at Paris Public Library as long as supplies last. You are invited to read it and join the book discussion on March 16, at 5:30pm.
Other Paris Public Library events include:
March 1—April 15 Adult Reading Program — Big Read style
Friends of the Paris Library moved our 2nd annual Adult Reading Program to coincide with the Big Read. Adults and teens are invited to participate.
Pick up a Bingo card at the library’s main desk. On it will be 25 squares, each with a different category of book. As you read a book matching a category, write the title of it in the square. Fill in the rows like a Bingo game; diagonal, across, top to bottom. Each square can only be used once. When you have reached a “Bingo,” fill in your contact information and turn it in at the library. You may take another card and read some more!
All “Bingo” cards must be turned in by 6pm on April 17 to be eligible for the drawing for 3 gift cards donated by local businesses.
March 17, 5-7pm & March 18, 10am-4pm Annual Used Book Sale
Both days open to everyone. Stop in for some great bargains: fiction, nonfiction, crafts, cookbooks, children’s books, and much more. (Current Friends members may fill their Friends bag for only $2 on Friday evening.)
April 18, 6pm Just Jane: An Evening with Jane Austen
Spend an evening at the library with author Jane Austen, as portrayed by Debra Miller. Limited seating, advance registration required. Call 217-463-3950 to sign up.
