The regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Trustees was called to order at 4:30 p.m. by Vice President Greg McHenry. In attendance were Trustees Mary Ann Tucker, Mary Taylor, Amy McGilvrey, Sue Punzelt, Ryan Fehrmann and Librarian Teresa Pennington. Absent were Trustees Jerry Cockcroft, Sharon Farris and Roxanne Michels.
Minutes of Previous Meeting: MOTION: Tucker, second McGilvrey to approve minutes as corrected (under Finance Report McHenry did NOT second the motion). Motion carried.
Finance Report: MOTION: Fehrmann, second Tucker to approve report as read. Motion carried.
Book Committee: MOTION: Taylor, second McGilvrey to approve 11 titles of nonfiction for purchase through the Lucy Bishop Fund. Motion carried.
House Committee: McHenry will provide a square piece of sheet metal for elevator maintenance to install in the elevator shaft wall hole at the next quarterly check.
Librarian’s Report (Statistics): MOTION: McGilvrey, second Tucker to approve report as read. Motion carried.
Friends of the Library: The Friends will once again host a Kids’ Christmas program on Thursday, December 2 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. for children preschool through 2nd grade.
*Pennington and McHenry gave an update on the Schwartz Fund. $11,000 was retained in the Super Now account at Edgar County Bank. A check for $188,206.45 was delivered to Dennis Thiel, city treasurer, to invest in laddered CDs at area financial institutions offering the best rates.
*Pennington reported that there is about $25,000 in the Pauline McClain bequest CD which matures November 10, 2010 to be invested and used. Board members discussed what to purchase with the money. McHenry will get information for possible new front doors.
*The library will not do “Food For Fines” this year. Instead, library will grant “amnesty” to patrons the first two weeks in January 2011 in an effort to get overdue materials returned.
*The age at which young patrons may use the Internet with parental permission has been reduced from 10 years to eight.
*Condolence flowers were sent to the family of Ron Doris.
*Charla Sanchez begins work Monday November 15, three mornings a week. (temporary)
