The regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Trustees was called to order at 4:30 p.m. by President Sharon Farris. In attendance were Trustees Greg McHenry, Mary Ann Tucker, Amy McGilvrey, Mary Taylor, Roxanne Michels, Susan Punzelt and Librarian Teresa Pennington. Absent was Trustee Jerry Cockcroft.
Minutes of Previous Meeting: MOTION: McGilvrey, second McHenry to approve minutes as read. Motion carried.
Finance Report: MOTION: Tucker, second McHenry to approve report as read. Motion carried.
Book Committee: No report.
*The damage to the roof from last August’s storm has been temporarily repaired by Art Reese for $290. Art Reese will complete the repair this spring. Estimate for total cost of repair is $595. The December 9 wind damage to the roof was temporarily repaired by Art Reese at a cost of $525. The company’s estimate for total cost of permanent roof repair is $3319, to be completed this year. After a $1000 deductible, insurance will cover $2844 of roof repair.
Librarian’s Report (Statistics): MOTION: McHenry, second Punzelt to approve report as read. Motion carried.
Friends of the Library: McGilvrey reported that the next meeting is January 18 at 6:00 p.m. The focus will be on membership. The group is working on getting a tax I.D number.
*Food for Fines: a total of $339 in fines was waived, and over 250 food items were received.
*Gates Grant: the library has raised $1950, the total amount needed for Phase 1, and $395 which is being applied to the Phase 2 requirement of $3900.
*Freedom of Information Act: the new revised law went into effect on January 1, 2010 . The library’s revised policy is posted on our website.
*Discussion of salary and hourly rates for librarians, and library finances. Discussion of Pennington’s recommendations for both.
*The library needs an Open Meetings Act Officer.
*Upcoming events: Mike Lunsford will sign his new book Sidelines on January 14 at 6:30 p.m., and a book discussion of My Antonia for The Big Read in March.
*On January 12 at 5:45 p.m. Lauren Stolz from Friends of the Library will discuss starting a book club.
