Part-Time Circulation Clerk
Job Title: Circulation/Technical Clerk
Position Summary:
The Circulation Clerk is a part-time position with regularly scheduled hours per week, occasional evenings, and some Saturdays, as well as filling in as relief for staff during vacations and sick leave.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Provides friendly, courteous, and accurate service to all users.
- Answering the telephone.
- Teaches technology skills to users.
- Performs circulation functions using the automated system, including charging, returning, and renewing items.
- Provides ready reference, readers’ advisory, and other assistance to users at the Checkout Desk.
- Maintain statistics as directed by the Director.
- Monitors computer use and public areas.
- Adds paper and toner to printers, copiers, and fax machine.
- Sends faxes, makes copies, and uses various office equipment.
- Assists in maintaining an appropriate library atmosphere.
- Complies with all library and personnel rules and regulations.
- Calling patrons concerning requested materials.
- Registers patrons and places holds
- Shelf reading.
- Opens/closes the library.
- Retrieving book drop.
- Shelving materials.
- Sorting donations.
- Assists with setting up adult and children's programming.
- Other duties as required.
Skill and educational requirements:
- The circulation/technical clerk shall have a minimum of a high school diploma or GED.
- Ability to work with Windows and MacOS computers and devices.
- Ability to work with a variety of cell phones.
- Intermediate-level technology skills to enable teaching and troubleshooting.
- Ability to reach, bend, stoop, and lift up to 20 pounds and access library areas and
materials. - Mastery of the English alphabet and the ability to count accurately.
- Ability to work and interact in a friendly yet professional manner with users and other library staff members.
- Possesses good customer service skills.
- Flexibility to adjust to changes in directions and priorities, and accept new challenges, responsibilities and assignments.
- Ability to work independently and carry out written and oral instructions.
- Ability to work effectively on a team.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally.
- Ability to work the hours needed to complete the responsibilities of a Public Services
Assistant. - Library experience or library coursework preferred.
