The regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Trustees was called to order at 4:30 p.m. by President Sharon Farris. In attendance were Trustees Greg McHenry, Mary Taylor, Roxanne Michels, Mary Ann Tucker, Amy McGilvrey, Susan Punzelt, Ryan Fehrmann, Librarian Teresa Pennington, and visitors Lauren Stolz and Michelle Wilkin from Paris Area Future Leaders. Not present: Trustee Aaron Rhoads.
Minutes of Previous Meeting: MOTION: McGilvrey, second McHenry to approve minutes. Motion carried.
Finance Report: MOTION: Michels, second Tucker to approve report. Motion carried.
Book Committee: MOTION: Michels, second McHenry to approve the purchase of 20 nonfiction titles through the Lucy Bishop Fund. Motion carried.
*Work on the men’s restroom (new urinal and drywall) was completed.
*New electrical outlets were installed upstairs in the reference room and next to the balcony, and downstairs in the northeast meeting room.
*MOTION: Tucker, second Punzelt to direct McHenry to get estimates for interior plaster repair work. Motion carried.
Librarian’s Report (Statistics): MOTION: McHenry, second Michels to approve report. Motion carried.
Friends of the Library: The Friends will meet this Monday, February 13 at 6:00 p.m.
*The park board and the library will host Shakespeare in the Park on Saturday, May 26 (Memorial Day weekend). Stone Soup Shakespeare Company will perform A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
*Pennington will write a second draft of Long Range Plan 2012-2015 for the March board meeting.
*MOTION: McGilvrey, second Tucker to approve library purchase of new computer and monitor for $819 to replace one of the public computers. Motion carried.
*MOTION: Michels, second Taylor to purchase a new Canon MS 300ii Microfilm Scanner for $7625 using Carmen Sanders bequest money. Motion carried.
*Board members and Pennington decided not to apply for the Digital Divide Grant.
*Book inventory is about 1/3 completed.
*Illinois Heartland Library System (IHLS) has chosen Polaris as its new automation vendor, to replace SirsiDynix.
*The library is now keeping only 2 years of magazine back issues.
*About half the children’s reference materials have been added to circulation shelves. The smaller reference section will allow the EASY section to be expanded by about three feet after inventory is completed.
*The library continues to provide tax forms and instructions.
*The morning Head Start children toured the library and listened to stories on January 12; afternoon Head Start was cancelled due to bad weather.
*Charla Sanchez’s last day was January 19.
*The library will be closed February 20 in observance of President’s Day.
*Book Sale will be March 24.
*Mike Lunsford will be a featured speaker at the library on March 15 at 6:30 p.m. as part of The Wabash Valley Big Read.
