The regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Trustees was called to order at 4:30 p.m. by President Sharon Farris. In attendance were Trustees Greg McHenry, Mary Taylor, Roxanne Michels, Mary Ann Tucker, Ryan Fehrmann, Aaron Rhoads, Amy McGilvrey, Sue Punzelt and Librarian Teresa Pennington.
Minutes of Previous Meeting: MOTION: McHenry, second Michels to approve minutes. Motion carried.
Finance Report: MOTION: McHenry, second Fehrmann to approve report. Motion carried.
Book Committee: The library purchased 19 fiction, seven nonfiction, 17 children’s fiction, five children’s non-fiction, and five young adult titles.
House Committee: No report.
Librarian’s Report (Statistics): MOTION: McGilvrey, second McHenry to approve report. Motion carried.
Friends of the Library: The Friends will meet Monday May 21. Currently they are working on “Shakespeare in the Park” (May 26).
Nominating Committee: MOTION: Rhoads, second Michels to accept the slate of officers as presented by Nominating Committee members McGilvrey and Punzelt. They are Farris—President, McHenry—Vice President, and Taylor--Secretary. Motion carried.
*Farris appointed Fehrmann to the House Committee.
*McGilvrey resigned as Friends of the Library liaison to the library board. Pennington will serve as temporary liaison.
*The board accepted Tucker’s resignation.
Old Business: Illinois Heartland Library System will merge all four of its online catalogs to one Polaris platform in the first quarter of 2013.
*Fehrmann reported that signs from Roxie's are about $15 to replace parking place signs that were defaced.
New Business: Fehrmann presented the updated Proposed Library Budget May 2012-April 2013 with corresponding notes. MOTION: Taylor, second Punzelt to accept budget. Motion carried.
*The library accepted Michelle Frost’s resignation; her last day will be June 1, 2012. Cindy Garwood accepted an offer from Pennington to work approximately 15 hours/week for the summer until a new staff member is hired to begin in the fall.
*The library will no longer assess a lost processing fee for materials that have been lost. Patrons must still pay to replace lost materials.
*Pennington will sign up for Gale Databases special offer to IHLS Public Libraries (see attached). Any 10 of 28 databases are available for a subscription cost of $2606.92 annually.
*MOTION: Rhoads, second Fehrmann to inform the state library that Paris Library has set the annual non-resident library card fee at $30. (Note: this amount was found to be inaccurate and will be corrected at the June meetings)
*Pennington reported that the Summer Reading Program will run Tuesdays June 5 – July 3 and Storyhour will run Thursdays June 14 – July 5. “Science is So Delicious” will be presented July 10 at 2:00 p.m. at the YMCA Hangar.
*The library will be closed Memorial Day, but will be open Saturday June 9, the day of the Shrine Parade.
*The Cultivating Creativity Children’s Art Exhibit is on display in the Northeast Meeting Room May 8-31.
