It’s time for the 2017 Big Read!

The Big Read encourages individuals to read the same book with the goal of promoting reading, sparking discussion, and building community. The 2017 Wabash Valley Big Read reaches across neighboring counties of Indiana and Illinois, with programs, events, and free copies of the book.

The 2017 Big Read book is Zora Neale Hurston’s Their Eyes Were Watching God. Free paperback copies are available at Paris Public Library as long as supplies last. You are invited to read it and join the book discussion on March 16, at 5:30pm.

Other Paris Public Library events include:

March 1—April 15      Adult Reading Program — Big Read style
Adults and teens are invited to participate in Paris Public Library’s second annual Adult Reading program between March 1 and April 15, 2017. Held in conjunction with this year’s Big Read, the program is a fun way for local teen and adult readers to discover what’s at the library.

“Bingo” cards are available at the library or here. Each card has 25 squares, each with a different category of book to be read. Audiobooks and ebooks count, too! Fill in the rows like a Bingo game—diagonal, across, or top to bottom. When you’ve completed a row, fill in the information at the bottom, and place the card in the box at the library. You are welcome to take another one and read more, but if you repeat a square from a previous card, you must read a different book.

Three names will be drawn for prizes by the Friends of the Paris Library on April 18. Entries must be turned in by 6pm on April 17 to be eligible. Only one prize per winner. You do not have to be present to win. Prizes are gift cards from Smoke Trail BBQ, Red’s Fun Zone, and Kroger. Friends of the Paris Library created our adult reading program card and sought donations for prizes.
